Not Your Mothers Book

Saturday Oct 1st 2011

This is a class for book makers that want to take their covers to the next level and learn to bind with a Coptic stitch, which allows your book to stay flat when open, enabling you to write or do art more easily.

We will carve our covers and set objects in the cover. We will also make simple "windows" in the cover of the book and explore different closures to use. I will show you had to add pizzaz to your signatures and, when combined with cover techniques, you will have a one of a kind book to take home.

Class Times: Class starts at 10am and concludes at 4pm.  Please arrive 30 mins prior to start time to allow you time to get setup and settled, ready to start on time

Jan Harris - Lets Get Waxy

Lets Get Waxy 1

Sunday October 2nd 2011

Tutor: Jan Harris

Class description:  Many of you have experimented with the use of beeswax as your final layer in collage and learned the beauty of encaustic.  In this class, we will go beyond a simple surface coating to the world of color and surface design.

We’ll put at least one collage together on a 8” X 10” board and cover it with wax and let the fun begin.  I will show you how to use incision, rubber stamps, oil sticks, foil, image transfers, embedding, color, stenciling, carbon paper, shellac, inks and more to work with your collage to create a finished, encaustic piece.

I will also demo methods you can use to make three dimensional projects.

Class Times: Class starts at 10am and concludes at 4pm.  Please arrive 30 mins prior to start time to setup and get settled in and ready to go at 10am
